Jaguar holds the record for highest

Jaguar cars in production at a factory at Bloxham near Banbury built in, with the first cars delivered to customers in July 1992. Jaguar XJ220 produced by Jaguar in collaboration with Tom Walkinshaw Racing as Jaguar Sport between 1992 and 1994. Jaguar holds the record for highest top speed production car 350 km / h, 217 mph, although modified from the standard to achieve this. Until the arrival of the McLaren F1 in 1994.
In the 1980s, Jaguar's chief engineer Jim Randle, as part of an informal group called "The Saturday Club", began work on a car called the XJ220. He saw it as competition for cars like the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959 and want to re-capture the glory years of Jaguar racing from the 50's and 60's. He imagines what is essentially updated XJ13 - a light two-seater with a powerful mid-mounted V12 engine. Randle expand the idea by settling on all wheel and integral safety-cage so the car can safely drive at breakneck speed.

This car uses the concept of quad-cam 6.2-liter version of Jaguar V12 engine, all that remains of a development project to test the viability of the quad-cam rider XJR-9. System of all-wheel-drive produced by FF Developments. The car was styled by Keith Helfet and included scissor-style doors similar to those used by Lamborghini. The name "XJ220" assigned as a reference to a targeted top speed of 220 mph (350 km / h).
The car was officially announced in 1989 with revised specifications and a price of £ 361,000 ($ 580,000 USD). Because the jaguar car production limit is only 350 units of the prospective buyers are required to put up a deposit of £ 50,000 ($ 80,000 USD) to be placed on the waiting list for delivery. A XJ220C car racing version is called to compete in GT racing.
The XJ220C, driven by Win Percy easily won the first race, round BRDC National Sports GT Challenge at Silverstone. An XJ220 would also be used in the Italian GT Championship in the early 1990s, even though this car has no factory support.
